I've come to realize today that my entire perception of time is skewed right now for some strange reason. Three people had to point out to me today that it's MIDTERM. I was like "Really??!!?? But we just started ???". Kills me how things can totally catch up with you without you
realizing it.
So yesterday I got a look at the new Doctor Who logo that will be released with the new series in 2010. For anyone who is curious, it is up on the official website (www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho). Not really sure what I think of it. On one hand, I like it, because it's simple. On the other, I am so fond of the opening for the series we have now that I really don't want to see a new one, especially if it means tweaking the theme and losing the awesomeness of Murray Gold's music (pure speculation on that last part). Or maybe I still have a death grip on Ten, who I consider MY Doctor. who knows?
Speaking of Ten, I am getting excited that we are getting closer to the end of the year. Series Three of the Sarah Jane Adventures starts next week. The next Doctor Who special should also be airing in a few weeks. (Thank Goodness there won't be this ungodly wait between specials anymore. ) Now if we could just get some Torchwood news, that would make me a very happy Whoverse fan.
Speaking of Doctor Who, I don't think I ever really told anyone other then T.J. about this, but I set out a while back to watch the entire classic series of Doctor Who. And I succeeded. Took a heck of a long time but it was a really interesting ride. Some things to note:
1.) I adore William Hartnell's Doctor. At first, it was a bit of a shock, seeing just how different a character he was from the Doctors that I have known from the new series, but he really grew on me as time passed. Of all the classic series Doctors, he is definitely a standout.
2.) Whoever had the bright idea of erasing so many of the classic episodes should have been drug out into the street and shot!. (along with the person who thought that the wood paneled TARDIS control room was a good idea....)One of the saddest things is to see how many stories now only exist as reconstructions. (VERY few stories from Two's tenure are still in existence.) At least they did save the first regeneration scene....
3.) True shock came when I got a look at the first appearance of the Cybermen in "The Tenth Planet". Being someone who had only seen the new series, it was surreal to see just how NON-Cyber these guys looked. Must be the reason why their appearances kept getting slightly changed whenever they showed up again.. And yet the Daleks weren't all that different.....
4.) I would love to see a future Doctor beat out Tom Baker's tenure on the show. That man was the Doctor for a VERY long time. So long that, by the time that he finally did leave the show, I was ready for him to go. On the flip side of that, Colin Baker could not have gotten off my screen fast enough and his tenure was easily the shortest of all of them. (Six grated on my very last nerve and Peri did nothing to help that.)
5.) Seven and Ace were AWESOME. I fell in love with Ace from the minute that she whacked a Dalek with a baseball bat in "Rememberance of the Daleks". Maybe it's just me, but I do think they could get away with bringing Ace back in the new series for a guest spot. (Hey, it worked for Sarah Jane.)
6.) Speaking of Sarah Jane, it was awesome getting to see some of the events she refered to in "School Reunion". Forever love for Sarah Jane Smith. Easily one of my favorites of the Doctor's companions.
7.) Favorites: Serial: "Genesis of the Daleks"
Doctor: One
Companion: Three way tie between Ace, Sarah Jane, and Leela.
realizing it.
